WAB for Warmth Raffle Fundraiser winners announced; $3,000 donated to fuel assistance

The raffle drawing was held on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Waterboro Selectmen's meeting. The grand prize of $2,000 went to Leonard Hunzelman, 2nd prize of $1,000 went to Carrie Shaw, and 3rd prize
of $500 went to Stephen Strong. Vice President Leo Binette presented a check to the town for $2,500 plus
Stephen Strong of Waterboro Postal Pack-n-Ship generously donated back his $500 prize to the fund bringing the amount to $3,000!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen, especially Lakeside Market for their big push on tickets sales near the end! Lakeside Market also donated $1,000 to the fund and Gorham Savings Bank donated $500. Thank you to all of our other members who donated money and bought raffle tickets.WAb raffle drawing

Since 2006 WAB has raised and donated close to $17,000 to the fuel assistance fund, plus $10,500 in raffle prizes paid out over the last 3 years! Donations are raised throughout the year and are always welcome. We park cars at Lakeside Market during the fishing derby in February and also collect donations at our Thanksgiving Senior Luncheon and annual gas pumping event. WAB for Warmth Gas Pumping Event at Lakeside Market

Diane Gray (Agency 1 Real Estate), Nancy Johnson (Waterboro's General Assistance Director), Leo Binette (Lakeside Market) and Jonathan Johnson (Kasprzak Insurance) were some of the volunteers from the Waterboro Association of Businesses who greeted customers at Lakeside Market Saturday as part of their annual fuel assistance fundraiser. Donations were accepted and raffle tickets were on sale for the big raffle drawing on Tuesday, Dec. 14th. Tickets can be purchased up until that date for $5 each or 3 for $10 with prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 in cash or fuel. All proceeds from the raffle benefit Waterboro's Special Assistance Heating Fund. Tickets are available at the following locations: Baby Mama, Biddeford Savings Bank, Blast From the Past, Good for All Pharmacy, Gorham Savings Bank, Lakeside Market, Leighton’s Garage, L&M Floors and More, Saco Valley Credit Union, Sanford Institution For Savings, Waterboro Town Hall and Waterboro Postal Pack-N-Ship

Business After Hours at Gorham Savings Bank

More than forty people attended the Business After Hours held Thursday, October 15 at Gorham Savings Bank. A short presentation on Fraud Protection was given by Lambrides & Associates.

Business After Hours at Bangor Savings Bank

The Business After Hours held Thursday, May 21 at Bangor Savings Bank was a big success. The event was well attended and raffle prizes were given away including a BBQ tool kit which went to Chris Dudley of Wild Cherry Woodworks and a coin set which was won by Leo Binette of Lakeside Market.

Flowers planted at Friendship Park to celebrate Earth Day

Some members of WAB fixed up the two flower boxes at Friendship Park with some new flowers to celebrate Earth Day on Thursday, April 22. Volunteers included Steve Eveld of Raven Hill Orchard, Sara Belanger of Bangor Savings Bank and Kerry DeAngelis of KL Design & Marketing and her daughter Zoey. The boxes were weeded and new flowers were planted.

Waterboro businesses look ahead,
Business Development Committee on task

The Waterboro Association of Businesses (WAB) recently held it's regularly monthly meeting at Waterboro Town Hall and hosted Waterboro's Town Planner, Tom Ursia who addressed the group discussing things like upcoming road projects, economic development and growth in Waterboro's future.

WAB has also recently formed an Business Development Committee chaired by Leo Binette of Lakeside Market. The committee meets weekly at Waterboro Town Hall at 7:30 a.m. In the old building, every week except the third week which is WAB's monthly meeting time. WAB's next monthly meeting is Wed., March 18.

First Skate Night big success

The first public skating night was held at the Rink at Friendship Park on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. It was windy which kept the temperatures down, and still, about 80 people came out to skate and enjoy the music and campfire. Hot cocoa and other refreshments were available.

The Rink is open!

We've got great ice down at the Rink at Friendship Park and the community is using it! We'll be holding Family Skating Nights on Sat. 1/31, 2/14, 2/28, 3/14 and 3/28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy lighted skating with music and refreshments.

Thanksgiving Senior Luncheon

Members of the Waterboro Association of Businesses served a hot turkey dinner to seniors at this year's Thanksgiving luncheon. The meal was free to seniors attending and the food was provided by Leo and Sandi Binette of Lakeside Market. Volunteers included Leo and Sandi Binette (Lakeside Market), Kerry DeAngelis (KL Design and Marketing), Sherry Norton (Gorham Savings Bank), Sara Belanger (Bangor Savings), Justin Dumond (MHS student), Sue Rocray, Rick Cress, Charles Petersen (all from Biddeford Savings Bank), Mike Campbell (Kasprzak Insurance) and Kirsten Pacyna-Lambert (4-Legged Friendzee).

The Grand Prize Winner of the WAB for Warmth Raffle Fundraiser was John Kustron of North Waterboro who took the $3,500 cash. The same amount was presented to the town's Special Assistacne Heating Fund. The drawing was Oct. 21 at the Waterboro Selectmen's Meeting.

WAB Holiday Party set for Dec. 11th
The Annual WAB Holiday Potluck Dinner & Yankee Swap will be held at the Ossipee Mountaineers Snowmobile Club on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m. A brief meeting will start at 5:30 with dinner and gift swap to follow. The club is located on Old Alfred Road and will be providing the appetizers. WAB will provide dessert. Please bring your favorite main dish or side dish along with a wrapped $10 gift for the swap.

WAB for Warmth Gas Pumping Event set for Dec. 6th
The annual Wab for Warmth Gas Pumping Fundraiser will be held again at Lakeside Market on Route 5 in Waterboro on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. WAB members will pump gas and wash windows for customers and donations will be collected for the Special Assistance Heating Fund. To volunteer a two-hour block of time that day, please e-mail Jonathan Johnson at jonathan@kasprzakinsurance.com.

Annual Membership Meeting a Success!
Welcome Sara Belanger as our new Secretary
Our Annual Membership Meeting and Dinner Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Sullie's Pub & Grille was a great success. We had 34 people attend and had a delicious dinner! We held our elections and officially have a new Secretary...Sara Belanger from Bangor Savings. The current president (me), vice president (Leo Binette) and Treasurer (Sherry Norton) were all re-elected. Our former Secretary, Chris Binette, will be focusing his efforts on fundraising and will be forming a fundraising committee in the weeks ahead. Anyone wishing to help Chris on that committee can reach him at chris@binetteinsuranceagency.com.

WAB officers 2008-2009

We decided to keep our monthly meetings in the morning on the 3rd Wed, of each month at 7:30 a.m. At Waterboro Town Hall. Our next meeting is October 15 and we will be discussing the ice rink at Friendship Park, the fundraising committee, and a budget for 2008-2009. If anyone has anything to add to the agenda before it goes out next week, please e-mail me.

We also announced the date of our raffle drawing to be Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. At the Waterboro Selectman's meeting (broadcast live on channel 5). Tickets are still available and we still need to sell a lot so if have any friends and family who want tickets, please contact me. Don't forget WAB members ARE ELIGIBLE TO WIN!

Annual Meeting and Dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 at Sullie's Pub & Grille on West Road.
Jane Harriman, the owner of Sullie's is a new member this summer and is opening up her restaurant on a night she is normally closed to host a private dinner for us! Invitations which detail the meal choices have been e-mailed and will be mailed as postcards as well. The cost is $32 per person, $7 of which WAB will be picking up for members who wish to attend. That means it will be $25 per person which includes tax and gratuity. The only thing you will be responsible for is your own bar tab.

We will have social time from 5:30-6:00 and a brief meeting at 6 p.m. Followed by dinner. There will also be door prizes!

Please RSVP by Friday Sept. 26. You will need to provide an entrée, potato and dessert choice. Payments can be mailed to WAB, PO Box 247, East Waterboro, ME 04030 or brought the night of the dinner.

A meeting agenda will be sent out the week before the meeting. We will be discussing meeting days and times for the upcoming year, offering monetary incentives to members who will host social events, as well as the Thanksgiving senior luncheon we plan on doing again in November.

Officers for the upcoming year will also be elected that night. If anyone wishes to become an officer, they are more than welcome to come forward. We do currently need a secretary. Chris Binette would like to step down as Secretary and become our fundraising coordinator instead. The Secretary needs to attend the meetings and keep accurate minutes as well as some other small clerical duties. Please e-mail president@waterborochamber.org if interested.

Take a chance at 1,000 gallons of oil or $3,500 cash!
The Waterboro Association of Businesses kicked off their raffle fundraiser with a free carwash this past Saturday at Lakeside Market in Waterboro. Over $700 was brought in throughout the day in donations and raffle ticket sales with proceeds going towards Waterboro's Special Assistance Heating fund.
